It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Hayling Golf Club website.
Hayling Golf Club, located on the shores of the Solent at the western end of the Island, is a private members club now in its 127th year of existence. The club is indebted to Lieutenant Colonel John Glas Sandeman (of the Sandeman Port and Sherry family), who on 3rd August 1883 called a meeting in his home at Hayling. It was during this meeting that Hayling Golf Club was born. The first Club Captain was Fleetwood Sandeman.
Hayling is a premier links golf course on the South Coast. It is classified in the top 100 golf courses in England and in the top 1000 European courses by Peugeot Golf Guide. The course, set in a superb location with beautiful views overlooking the Solent and the Isle of Wight, offers a true test of ability and, with its excellent drainage, remains playable all the year round. The winds from the Solent can make a significant difference on how the course is played and contributes to the enjoyment of this great course. The course, at just over 6,500 yards, runs parallel to the beach at times, wending its way through grass-covered sand dunes and long fairways. The 11th hole par 3 known as ‘Woolsners' faces out to sea and its green is defended by large pot-bellied bunkers ... the varying wind direction will decide what club to take. The club supports a strong junior section which has produced several English Amateur Internationals over the years. There is also a separate Ladies' Club and a strong mixed team.
The golf course is classified as an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and much of nature's flora and fauna can be seen whilst playing the course.
Our magnificent welcoming clubhouse, opened by John Jacobs in 2002, has beautiful views over the course and the Solent, while those dining in the restaurant enjoy spectacular sunsets over the lake in the evening. The clubhouse offers friendly hospitality, a wide range of menus, themed gourmet evenings and a vibrant social calendar catering for every taste.
