Review of Hayling by the 'Surrey Golfer' at www.surreygolfer.co.uk
"...........Hayling is an eclectic concoction of all that links has to offer – sharp pot bunkers, hard and fast turf, quietly undulating greens, blind shots, gorse and need we forget … wind!........The turf on the Sinah Common is supreme, and as a Site of Special Scientific Interest it is stunning also. Undulating dunes framed with fescue, heather and gorse. One of the more beautiful, and perhaps hidden details (depending if you find the fairway or not) is the lichen – the circulatory system for all flora and a pulsating silver carpet.
To be honest, I fell for Hayling long before my visit. So much so, that I committed to becoming a Distant Member off the back of photography from the likes of Jason Livy and Sam Cooper. And of course the rumours circulating that this is the most underrated links in the land. I can safely say that I agree with this gossip and all it took was the sight from the balcony upon the glorious Art Deco clubhouse that surveys the opening and closing holes.
Each of the holes within this stretch is a jewel, and would happily find their way into the crown of any premier links routing".

National Club Golfer Top 100 Courses In England 2022 - Hayling Ranked 56th
Occupying a piece of pure linksland, Hayling Island stands on a Site of Special Scientific Interest and looks over the Solent towards the Isle of Wight. The course has had at least three incarnations. It was extensively remodelled by five-time Open champion JH Taylor in the early 20th century, but the club itself dates all the way back to 1883. Much of what stands today is the work of Tom Simpson, who came along in the 1930s to address the issue of too many blind shots, some of them apparently quite extreme examples of the genre and involving substantial carries over large dunes.
Hayling now measures over 6,500 yards from the back tees and is regarded as an excellent test, all the more so when a breeze comes in off the sea, which is more often than not.
In relative terms, the start is largely unremarkable but the stretch in the middle through the dunes is outstanding. The pick is perhaps the 11th, Woolseners, a par 3 that would not be out of place at an Open venue......read more

Top 100 Courses in England Ranking for 2021 (improved from 60th to 52nd)
We are proud to announce that Hayling Golf Club is now ranked 52nd in England for 2021, a massive jump from 60th in 2019 when the last review was performed, undoubtedly due to the continued investment, hard work and commitment shown by the Club and its greens staff, headed by Greig Easton. With Hayling scheduled to host a 4-day England Golf Championship event later in 2021 and 2 x new bunkers currently being installed on the 7th there are exciting times ahead for the Club and everyone who is part of it!
